The mother of Vegan Fox
It started with a simple question: which cosmetics are truly vegan? Maija Rieksta-Riekstiņa, a mother of a large family in Latvia, got tired of deciphering ingredient lists to answer that question when her friends asked for advice. The most honest answer she found was also the most radical: create her own.
She left a good job at a good company, stepped out of her comfort zone, and founded Vegan Fox. A decision she describes without drama: she wanted to create something lasting, something consistent with her values, something where she could truly put a piece of herself. Her products are handcrafted in Latvia, because as she says, it's more personal that way.
The name was chosen by the animal itself. The fox appeared and claimed its place because it is intelligent, beautiful, feminine, and has great intuition. And is it vegan? The Vegan Fox one is, because foxes can be many things, just like people.
Vegan Fox Products and their Criteria
No animal-derived ingredients. No gelatin, no lanolin, no beeswax. No exceptions and no compromises. Certified by the Vegan Society, the international benchmark that verifies that products and their raw materials do not contain animal derivatives and have not been tested on animals.
Between 92% and 100% natural ingredients depending on the product, all sourced from European Union suppliers. Vegetable oils, butters, plant extracts and powders, vitamins C and E.
No blacklist of common ingredients in conventional cosmetics. No mineral oils, no parabens, PEGs or triclosan, no gluten or soy, no GMOs, no petrolatum or phthalates, no EDTA, no DEA/MEA/TEA. This is not a marketing list: it is the natural consequence of formulating with careful consideration and without shortcuts.
Products that contain preservatives use them in the minimum necessary amount to guarantee safe use after opening. Transparency in that too.
Causes and actions behind Vegan Fox
Vegan Fox is not just a cosmetics brand. Maija dedicates time and resources to animal protection and the restoration of the natural environment. Every purchase helps to fund these initiatives. It is not a symbolic percentage or a one-off campaign: it is part of why the brand exists.
We chose them because the products work and because the story behind them is consistent from beginning to end. That, in cosmetics, is not as common as it should be.
Facts and Curiosities
Latvia as origin
It's not a country that comes up much in conversations about natural cosmetics, but it has a deep-rooted tradition of using medicinal plants and a relationship with the natural environment that is evident in how brands like Vegan Fox understand formulation. Origin matters, and here it adds value.
Approved by the Vegan Society
The Vegan Society seal is one of the most demanding in international vegan verification. It's not enough to declare that the product is vegan: it must be demonstrated that the ingredients, processes, and suppliers meet the criteria. Vegan Fox has it across its entire range.
"I wanted to create something lasting, something aligned with my life values and where I could put a piece of my heart." Maija Rieksta-Riekstiņa, founder of Vegan Fox.
