The Sabater Hnos. Tradition
The story begins in Buenos Aires, 1937. Sebastián Sabater, of Mallorcan origin, emigrated to Argentina and began working as a chemist and master soap maker. What set him apart from other manufacturers of the time was not the formula, but the idea: that a soap could tell a story, that scent was a language. A groundbreaking intuition for the 1930s that eventually became the DNA of the entire brand.
Several decades and transatlantic journeys later, in 2002, Eliana, the third generation of the family, arrived from Buenos Aires to Barcelona with the intention of writing a new chapter. She chose Plaça de Sant Felip Neri for the workshop, in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, one of those squares that hold more history than many museums. To find it, she says, one only needs to follow the scent of her soaps through the narrow streets surrounding the cathedral.
Today, Eliana works with the same original machines as her grandfather, updated but recognizable, and with the same philosophy: soaps that are not just about cleanliness, but a sensory experience.
Sabater Hnos. Method and Criteria
Artisanal cold process. It is the slowest method, the one that requires the most patience, and also the one that best preserves the properties of the ingredients. It generates no waste, has a lower environmental impact, and allows for simple, balanced formulas with fewer unnecessary additives.
No parabens, sulfates, silicones, mineral oils, or preservatives. Just like Sebastián's first soaps, but with more backing: registered with the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS), with Good Manufacturing Practices for Cosmetics (GMP), and on the European Product Notification Portal (CPNP). Craftsmanship with all the paperwork in order.
100% vegan and cruelty-free. Only vegetable oils, natural additives, and quality fragrances. Nothing of animal origin, nothing tested on animals.
The Art of Scent
The distinguishing mark of Sabater Hnos. is not just in the soap, it's in the scent. Their perfumery heritage translates into intense, balanced compositions with their own identity. These are not generic catalog fragrances: they are the result of decades of working with raw materials, of understanding that a well-constructed scent transforms an everyday gesture into something worthwhile.
Their soaps have reached stores all over the world, including some of the most selective in New York, without losing the character of a Barcelona workshop. This coherence between origin and projection is difficult to maintain, and Eliana has achieved it.
We tried them. And the scent convinces from the first bar.
Curiosities and Facts
Plaça de Sant Felip Neri has its own history. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful squares in the Gothic Quarter, also known for the shrapnel marks still preserved on the walls of its church, a reminder of the Civil War bombings. A soap workshop in that context is no coincidence, it is a declaration of intent about where one wants to be.
Three generations, two continents, one recipe. Sebastián in Buenos Aires, the second generation crossing the Atlantic, Eliana settling in Barcelona. Each journey added something without losing the essence. Few brands can tell such a clear and honest genealogy.
"We imagine new concepts. We play with impossible formats. We stretch the limits of tradition to discover where it takes us. Sabater Hnos. is the same old Sabater. And it's completely different."Eliana Sabater.
