Guide to maintaining a balanced scalp

How often should I wash my hair? It's a question that has crossed many of our minds at some point: every day? every two or three days? once a week?
The short answer: it depends .
The long answer—and the one that really matters—is here, so that your natural hair washing makes sense and delivers results.

There is no universal hair washing frequency

There's no magic rule that works for everyone. The ideal hair washing frequency depends on your hair type , scalp , lifestyle, the time of year, the climate, and, above all, how your hair responds over time .

The scalp is skin , and as such, it naturally produces sebum for protection. When this sebum mixes with sweat, dead skin cells, and environmental particles (pollution, dust), it can cause a feeling of dirtiness, itching, or imbalance if it isn't cleaned regularly.
Therefore, more than counting days, the important thing is to observe your scalp and adapt the washing frequency to its real needs , in order to maintain a balanced and healthy scalp .

Indicative frequencies according to hair type

Oily hair or scalp prone to oiliness:

Every 1–2 days
The scalp produces more sebum and needs more frequent cleaning to avoid a feeling of dirt, itching, or clumpiness.
Using natural shampoos , without harsh sulfates, allows you to wash more frequently without damaging the natural barrier and promotes natural sebum regulation .

Normal hair

Every 2–3 days
It maintains the balance between cleansing and natural protection. The key is consistency and using products that respect the hydrolipidic film .

Dry, curly, thick or dyed hair

Every 3–4 days , (or even more in some cases)
These hair types retain their natural oils better. Even so, it's not advisable to wash your hair less than twice a week , as the accumulation of residue, dust, and dead skin cells can clog follicles and limit scalp oxygenation .

Important: Even if your situation allows for less frequent washing, avoid going more than 7–10 days without washing . Excess grease, dirt, or product can cause inflammation, itching, odor, or irritation .

Natural products , well formulated and without harsh detergents, allow you to maintain these weekly minimums without drying out or unbalancing the scalp.

Natural cosmetics as an ally

Real natural cosmetics are committed to:

  • Ingredients of plant or mineral origin ,
  • Shorter and more honest formulas ( less but better ),
  • Vegan products ,
  • Solid or concentrated formats that reduce waste and simplify the routine, respecting the skin, hair and their natural cycles .

Because it doesn't excessively strip away natural oils or disrupt the scalp's balance, many people notice that they can gradually space out washes without feeling dirty or becoming dependent on shampoo.

Be patient with the process

Regulation takes time. Adjustments are part of the process. Reverting to the first symptom often prevents the body from finding its balance. Be consistent and let natural hair care do its work, little by little.

Vegetable oils: a top complement

The use of vegetable oils (pre and post wash) can be very beneficial: they help to moisturize the lengths and ends , provide natural shine , soften, protect and to maintain scalp balance . Keep in mind that they should not be used as a substitute for washing: regular cleansing remains the foundation for maintaining a healthy and balanced scalp.
