Jojoba is not a typical oil: it is actually a liquid wax extracted from the seeds of the Simmondsia chinensis shrub, which withstands the harsh conditions of the Sonoran Desert (Mexico and Arizona), explaining its stability and resistance to oxidation. Native Americans used it centuries ago to heal wounds and protect their skin from the relentless desert sun.
Its composition is what makes it unique: molecules almost identical to human sebum (wax esters), with vitamin E, antioxidants and fatty acids that regulate without altering the natural balance.
On the skin
It absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue, regulates sebum production, and maintains the skin's protective barrier. Ideal for combination or oily skin that tends to be too shiny, it also hydrates dry skin without clogging pores. It soothes irritations, balances the skin, and leaves it soft and matte. We even use it on mild acne because it's non-comedogenic.
In the hair
It penetrates the scalp, regulates oil at the roots, and moisturizes ends without weighing hair down. It provides natural shine, controls frizz, and protects against daily damage. Our tip: a few drops on an oily scalp and say goodbye to daily washes.
Interesting fact: the jojoba shrub is dioecious (there are separate male and female plants), and only the females produce seeds. In the 1970s, it was planted extensively in deserts for oil production because it withstands severe droughts and helps to stabilize the soil.
